New from SpaceLogic C-Bus home automation:
November 2023:
New 2023 SpaceLogic C-Bus Digital Dimmers are specifically designed to work with dimmable LED lights,
and incorporate many other major improvements. In overview:
- The new dimmer output components and circuitry are now designed to be more suitable for dimmable LEDs,
while still maintaining compatibility with incandescent/halogen bulbs, and halogen bulbs with dimmable electronic
or iron-core transformers.
- Extensive programmable customisation options now enable your systems integrator to
fine-tune how easily you may control LED dimming, for a further improved user experience.
- Two models have been released, the 5508D1D 8 channel 1A per channel C-Bus dimmer, and the 5504D2D 4 channel 2A
per channel C-Bus dimmer. Both now always include an inbuilt 200mA C-Bus power supply, that may now be turned
on/off from the front panel of the dimmers, or in the C-Bus commissioning software.
- The 2 new C-Bus Digital Dimmers are replacing all current C-Bus 8 and 4 channel DIN dimmers (L5508D1A,
L5508D1AP, L5504D2A, L5504D2AP, L5504D2U & L5504D2UP) that included or excluded C-Bus power supplies.
The new dimmers are still 12M wide DIN units simplifying physical installation during upgrading, though some
additional mains wiring local to the dimmers may be required by your electrician.
- More robust fault detection and response capabilities are now supported.
- A large removable transparent cover protect device labels on the front of the dimmers.
More specifically, these new C-Bus digital dimmers now support:
- Fully customisable dimmer channel load profiles and dimming curves, that my be specified by your
C-Bus systems integrator uniquely for each channel, to produce easier and more linear dimming control,
or to suit specialised dimming applications or user preferences.
- Generation of advanced diagnostic and status information for each channel, including load operating time,
incompatibility with the currently selected dimming mode, the dimming mode selected, online/offline status,
dimming mode error, channel operating temperature, temperature wind back and shutdown activation, over
current detection, and measured mains frequency per channel.
- New in-built protection for improved product robustness and fault diagnosis, including
over temperature dimming wind back and recovery, thermal shut down, over current and short circuit detection
and channel shut down.
- The manual selection of Trailing Edge and Leading Edge dimming operation for each channel independently.
- In Leading Edge dimming mode, detection of incompatible load behaviour including excessive current phase lag,
excessive jitter of channel crossing compared with mains supply zero crossing, and inductive load spikes.
- On the SpaceLogic C-Bus 5508D1D Digital 8 Ch 1A Dimmer two phase-independent dimming banks of
4 channels each may be used on a different phase to each other and to the the control side of the dimmer
(which may necessitate additional short local wiring by your installing electrician when upgrading
existing older C-Bus DIN mounted C-Bus dimmers).
- 4 “C-Bus Applications” may now be programmed for use with the new C-Bus Digital Dimmers.
- USB-C connection for powering the device enabling temporary programming via a C-Bus connection without an
energised mains AC connection to the dimmer.
- Inbuilt C-Bus system clock generator, that may now be turned on/off from the front panel of the dimmers, as well as from C-Bus commissioning software.
- Suitable for 110VAC or 240VAC installations.
